Master Justin Scarsella, owner of Master Scarsella’s World Class Tae Kwon Do, took Impact Wrap’s ease of use and its ability to be fully customized and created a unique new fitness program that is easily packaged and distributable.
Back in 2020, Master Scarsella wanted to take the Tae Kwon Do classes at his two very successful Alabama schools to the next level. He was looking for data-driven motivation and engagement using cutting-edge technology. A few ideas about adding a kickboxing fitness program were also just starting to take shape for him at that time. Master Scarsella fully vetted us and took a chance on the Impact Wrap heavy bag tracking platform. Three years later A LOT of innovation and growth has happened for Master Scarsella’s business ventures and Impact Wrap.
The idea, the pandemic, and the big project.
Master Scarsella has an extensive fitness background and was one of the first CrossFit affiliates in the state of Alabama. CrossFit essentially turned fitness into a sport; everything became timed and scored. Once the heavy bags at his schools were connected with Impact Wrap, and the system began registering the force and frequency of strikes and displaying the live scores on a leaderboard, some ideas began to take shape for Master Scarsella. During the early part of the pandemic, he started pulling these ideas together and it became his “big project.” Some of the same fitness principles that were foundational with CrossFit and its original methodologies he put into his newly created fitness kickboxing program. He took the kickboxing element and then filled in the gaps with body mechanic drills, resistance bands, and body weight calisthenics, making it a well-rounded fitness program for anyone of any fitness level.

Master Scarsella and his staff began testing a pilot program of FGHTR Fitness Kickboxing at his two Alabama schools. The pilot program was filled with parents and families of the kids from his schools. They had no previous martial arts or kickboxing background. They never had the interest to jump on the mat for a Tae Kwon Do class. But, they loved Master Scarsella’s schools and the trainers. As soon as they saw it was a fitness kickboxing class, once they learned about the heavy bag metrics via Impact Wrap and how they could quantify their striking speed and power, they were all in. His market demographic was already there, right in front of him. As Master Scarsella explains, “just normal moms and dads that wanted to get in better shape, increase flexibility, and develop a community and that’s really how it started.”

Impact Wrap now offers Franchise Management Tools which use our Workout Packs system. Corporate trainers create workouts, with or without video, and can then populate franchisee workout libraries, ensuring program and brand continuity. Our Workout Packs are a way for us to help our gyms save time and streamline operations, particularly for multi-location gyms, franchises, or programs like the FGHTR Fitness Kickboxing Affiliate program.
FGHTR Fitness Kickboxing was initially designed with the idea that it would be rolled out to other people and Master Scarsella wanted to create it as a license, not a franchise. He wasn’t looking to create a standalone program, but rather a program that would be part of an already successful martial arts school and would optimize their downtime. The FGHTR affiliate program uses Impact Wrap Workout Packs that Master Scarsella designs for the program and then are easily exported to affiliates. Master Scarsella and his team can then populate affiliates’ workout libraries. The Workout Packs they create lay out the format of each class – the Body Mechanic Warm-ups, Kickboxing, Resistance Bands, Body Weight Exercises, and Cool-Down Recovery. It’s essentially plug-and-play for the affiliates.

To keep things fun and fresh, Master Scarsella’s team again utilizes Impact Wrap’s easily configurable platform to create new workout packs on a monthly basis, which are then distributed to all FGHTR Fitness Kickboxing affiliates. The ability to customize workouts so easily with Impact Wrap also sparks creativity. Master Scarsella is able to create workouts that directly appeal to his particular market demographic: moms and dads of Tae Kwon Do and martial arts school students. For instance, naming workouts ‘Trapper Keeper’ is a shout-out to those Gen-X and Millenial parents, almost like an inside joke. Or how about a workout named after the Disney villain “Ursula” which finishes with 8 kickboxing rounds, representing her 8 limbs? What parent hasn’t watched The Little Mermaid 7,000 times and as a result wouldn’t be completely motivated to kick Ursula’s butt? None! Additionally, Workout Pack extras like emojis can be used and often add a little extra touch to the fun and creativity!
